Synopsis

Conception is a gift from the Lord and we must be thankful to The LORD. It is the work of God, beyond the natural phenomenon. It's the miracle of the formation of life – so intricately woven together by God Himself. In this passage, we observe the optimism of Eve, and later on, the disappointment and frustration. We learn that

1. Sometimes in life, our human hopes and our human expectations may be deceived, mistaken and mislead. Eve thought Cain was the promised deliverer (Gen 3:15), the one from whom salvation was to be expected, the one who was to crush the head of the serpent, but she was mistaken. This is part of the pain that comes with child-bearing.
2. God uses dashed hopes and crushed dreams to underscore our need for Him and to summon us to wait patiently for His salvation.
3. Spectacular and beautiful as the first human birth was, the new birth in the Lord Jesus Christ is even more spectacular and miraculous. It's a greater spectacle to marvel at how people become born again – it's a miracle that can only be done without the help of any human, it's the work of God.
