Synopsis

Death is a reality though we tend to be casual about it, we do discuss about a number of topics or subjects surrounding our lives and rarely discuss death. Luke 16:19-31 provides a narrative of a rich man and Lazarus the beggar. Lazarus the beggar died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s bosom and the rich man also died and was buried and was placed in torments in Hades. This passage reminds us that human beings are mere mortals liable to death and dying - for it is appointed for man to die once (Hebrews 9:27). Further this also reminds that one's social status does not prevent him/her from dying.

The theological definition of death is the separation of the soul from the body. The Bible tells us that when somebody dies the body returns to the ground where it came from and his soul returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7). Both Lazarus and the rich man died, however, Lazarus was carried by angels to Abraham bosom not because he was a beggar but because he had made peace with God, he had given his life to Christ whereas the rich man suffered torment and it was too late for him to make peace with God.

How is your standing with God, have you come in faith repenting to God of all your sins? have you confessed your sins and all your transgression? Blessed is the one who's sins are covered and transgressions forgiven.
