Synopsis

In verse 5, Jesus says "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing". If you are a Christian, you need to ask yourself, "as a branch attached to the vine, am I bearing much fruit? Is there obedience, righteousness, love ... being displayed in my life on a daily basis?"

Bearing fruit only happens if the branches are firmly attached to the vine. If we are not connected to the vine, we cannot bear any fruit at all. Jesus Christ is the one true vine. Let us look up to the true vine, planted by the gardener Himself (John 15:1). He is the only vine that is sufficient.

If we do not produce fruit, we are strongly warned that the vinedresser (God, the Father) will not only cut off the fruitless branches, but will also burn them in fire. We therefore ought to search ourselves. If you are not producing fruit, run to Jesus Christ, seek Him as the true vine.
